Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager – Net Assets

Location: Bloomfield Hills, MI – Hybrid (4 Days Onsite)

Position Summary

Robert Half is partnering with our client to hire a Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager – Net Assets . Reporting directly to the CFO, this role is hands-on and highly visible, responsible for managing the accounting and reporting of the organization’s net assets, including restricted grants, endowment funding, and grant compliance . You will ensure timely and accurate reporting, support leadership with financial insights, and help guide the organization in advancing its mission.

Key Responsibilities

• Track and maintain accounting for net assets, including donor-restricted funds, grants, and endowment activity.
• Maintain detailed grant schedules to monitor compliance and spending in accordance with donor and grantor restrictions.
• Prepare reports for restricted and unrestricted funding sources with accuracy and transparency.
• Support the CFO with monthly and annual financial reporting.
• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows).
• Perform journal entries and general ledger reconciliations.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Support budget preparation and variance analysis.
• Provide documentation and support for annual audits.
• Collaborate with program and development staff to align financial tracking with funding requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 2+ years of nonprofit grant reporting OR 2+ years in public accounting auditing/reviewing nonprofit organizations.
• Knowledge of GAAP and experience with restricted funds, endowments, and grant accounting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with accounting software a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to thrive in a small, collaborative, purpose-driven office.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to explain financial information to non-financial colleagues.
